Transit timings variations in the three-planet system: TOI-270

چکیده

ABSTRACT We present ground- and space-based photometric observations of TOI-270 (L231-32), a system three transiting planets consisting one super-Earth two sub-Neptunes discovered by TESS around bright (K-mag = 8.25) M3V dwarf. The orbit near low-order mean-motion resonances (5:3 2:1) are thus expected to exhibit large transit timing variations (TTVs). Following an extensive observing campaign using eight different observatories between 2018 2020, we now report clear detection TTVs for c d, with amplitudes ∼10 min super-period ∼3 yr, as well significantly refined estimates the radii mean orbital periods all planets. Dynamical modelling alone puts strong constraints on mass ratio d their eccentricities. When incorporating recently published from radial velocity observations, obtain masses $M_{\mathrm{b}}=1.48\pm 0.18\, M_\oplus$, $M_{\mathrm{c}}=6.20\pm 0.31\, $M_{\mathrm{d}}=4.20\pm 0.16\, M_\oplus$ b, c, respectively. also detect small but significant eccentricities : eb 0.0167 ± 0.0084, ec 0.0044 0.0006, ed 0.0066 0.0020. Our findings imply Earth-like rocky composition inner planet, cores additional He/H2O atmosphere outer two. is best constrained systems planets, it remains excellent target atmospheric characterization.

Developments in Planet Detection using Transit Timing Variations

In a transiting planetary system, the presence of a second planet will cause the time interval between transits to vary. These transit timing variations (TTV) are particularly large near mean-motion resonances and can be used to infer the orbital elements of planets with masses that are too small to detect by any other means. I present the results of a study of simulated data where I show the p...

The detection and characterization of a nontransiting planet by transit timing variations.

The Kepler mission is monitoring the brightness of ~150,000 stars, searching for evidence of planetary transits. As part of the Hunt for Exomoons with Kepler (HEK) project, we report a planetary system with two confirmed planets and one candidate planet discovered with the publicly available data for KOI-872. Planet b transits the host star with a period P(b) = 33.6 days and exhibits large tran...

Efficient analysis in planet transit surveys

With the growing number of projects dedicated to the search for extrasolar planets via transits, there is a need to develop fast, automatic, robust methods with a statistical background in order to efficiently do the analysis. We propose a modified analysis of variance (AoV) test particularly suitable for the detection of planetary transits in stellar light curves. We show how savings of labor ...

Observational Window Functions in Planet Transit Surveys

The probability that an existing planetary transit is detectable in one’s data is sensitively dependent upon the window function of the observations. We quantitatively characterize and provide visualizations of the dependence of this probability as a function of orbital period upon several observing strategy and astrophysical parameters, such as length of observing run, observing cadence, lengt...

Observational Window Functions in Planet Transit Searches

Window functions describe, as a function of orbital period, the probability that an existing planetary transit is detectable in one’s data for a given observing strategy. We show the dependence of this probability upon several strategy and astrophysical parameters, such as length of observing run, observing cadence, length of night, and transit duration. The ability to detect a transit is direc...
